Chapter 3
Sabrina hesitated to answer her phone. She looked at the number, saw the “private caller” text and knew instantly that this was Samir calling her. With shaking fingers, she looked at her phone then closed her eyes, praying for the willpower to resist his call.
When it finally stopped ringing, she felt nearly deflated. How could one man so control her that she barely had the capability to avoid his phone call? She’d been with him for six weeks, meeting him whenever he came to town, unable to stop her excitement at seeing him, just being with him. He’d convinced her to accept what they had with each other but now she felt like she wasn’t a whole person when he wasn’t with her!
She felt almost bereft when he was gone. She’d ignored his call and now she wouldn’t be able to talk with him! She should have answered the call. She stopped in the middle of the hallway, realizing how silly she sounded. It was so wrong to want to be with him, she told herself so it was good that she’d ignored the call!
Sabrina sighed, her shoulders slumping as she forced her feet to continue down the hallway.
She just wanted to be with him! And he obviously wanted to be with her! What was the problem? If they both wanted to see each other, why not just give in and accept the time he had to give her?
Shaking her head, Sabrina forced her feet to carry her the rest of the way to the university library. She found an empty space and sat down, organizing her materials as best she could but she couldn’t concentrate. Looking around at the other students, they all had their heads’ bent as they studied much more diligently than she was currently doing. And this was why she couldn’t see Samir, she thought. He distracted her. When he came into town, he set her world on fire, but he also made her feel so crazy with need, so excited to just be with him that she gave up everything, canceled her plans, avoided study sessions and just ran to him.
Okay, so she was pushing herself harder when he wasn’t around just so she would be sure to have time for him when he came into town. Thankfully, she wasn’t falling behind on her studies. In fact, she’d just aced her last test and some of the other students thought it had been the hardest they’d ever taken. She’d breezed through the exam, knowing the answers like the back of her hand.
She had to smile because Samir had helped her study for that one. Their study sessions usually ended up with their desire for each other exploding out of control, but she really should just get a grip on her life. She suddenly realized that her days had become colorless when he wasn’t there with her. The days in between his visits were grey and tedious while the days leading up to his visits and the days he was with her were filled with sunshine and color.
